ALCOHOL
Alcohol plays a big part in many of our lives,whether we have something to celebrate,commiserate, or just as part of a wellprepared meal.Drunk in moderation, it is not harmful to your health. But in excess, alcohol can affect your health and wellbeing. Unfortunately alcohol remains a common drug of abuse, not only in alcoholics, but also in binge drinkers and “social” drinkers.
It’s important to understand the risks of alcohol consumption, so we can learn how to drink responsibly.

BACK PAIN
Back pain is one of the commonest complaints world-wide. For most people back pain is due to mechanical ‘wear and tear’ on the spine.
It is often preventable and most often will resolve within a few weeks but it can be serious and should be checked by your doctor, especially if the symptoms are severe and include pain in the legs.
WORK-LIFE BALANCE
Most of us have multiple roles in life:employees, partners, friends and possibly parents. In addition, we have to take care of our mental and physical health. Not surprisingly, we find it difficult to balance these different elements. Achieving work-life balance means achieving harmony between priorities.
Although this state is different for each of us, most of us know when we’re out of balance. When that happens, it’s important to address before it harms our health.
HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
Hypertension or high blood pressure is common and is the leading cause for heart disease worldwide. It is called the “silent killer” because it normally causes no symptoms until long-term damage has been done to the body. If detected early enough, high blood pressure can be managed effectively.

CANCER
Cancer (“the big C”) is one of the most feared group of diseases that exists today. CHANGE
Change is stressful: whether positive change such as getting a promotion, moving house,or having a baby, or negative change such as losing a loved one, ending a relationship or being retrenched. While there is always risk associated with change and the possibility that you are unable to cope with the transition, change also presents opportunities for learning and growth. The key is to understand how change affects you and how to manage the process.
HIGH CHOLESTEROL
High cholesterol is a condition where excessive fatty substances are found in the body. These are deposited on the walls of the blood vessels which then harden and narrow. This process is called atherosclerosis and increases your risk of heart attack and stroke.

Communication seems fairly simple at first glance: one person talks and the other listens. But if it was such a simple, linear process, we wouldn’t experience so many misunderstandings, errors and disagreements.
DEPRESSION
We’ve all felt down at some point in our lives.Feelings of discouragement, frustration,and despair are normal reactions to bad news, which can last from a few hours to a few days before disappearing. However, when these bad feelings linger and begin to interfere with work or family, reducing your overall quality of life, the low mood may be a sign of depression.

ERGONOMICS
Working smart is about adapting your surroundings to suit your body instead of the other way around. Good ergonomics can help you avoid the aches and pains you feel at the end of the day. In the long term, paying attention to ergonomics can prevent chronic pain.
EXERCISE
According to some experts, being physically inactive may be as damaging to your health as smoking cigarettes. Many people these days shun smoking because of the health implications. But do they exercise? Mostly – no!
The truth is that exercise is the one thing you can’t afford NOT to do.
DEBT MANAGEMENT
Credit can be helpful when used wisely, but more and more people are getting into situations where they can’t settle their debt. Unfortunately, most only notice when it’s too late. HAYFEVER
Hayfever (also known as Allergic rhinitis) is a common allergic condition where the nose and sinuses become blocked and produce excessive mucous. This condition occurs in almost 25 per cent of all people. Allergies can be caused by almost any substance but pollen, house dust mite and animal dander are the commonest. Allergic rhinitis is treatable and often preventable.
Hayfever is often dismissed as a minor condition but it can significantly impact quality of life for sufferers.
HEARTBURN
Heartburn is a common affliction –in fact,most adults will experience heartburn at some stage in their lives. Heartburn refers to a feeling of discomfort or pain in the upper abdomen and/or lower chest, often associated with a sour taste in the mouth. This happens when acidic contents from the stomach push upwards into the oesophagus or ‘swallowing-pipe’ which connects the mouth to the stomach.
Most causes of heartburn are of minor concern, but sometimes it may be a sign of a more serious underlying condition, or it may be confused with other serious causes of pain, like heart problems.
HEADACHES
Headache is one of those conditions everyone experiences at some time. However, for quite a number of people headache becomes an ongoing and debilitating problem. Often with the right diagnosis and treatment the problem can be entirely resolved or managed.
Headaches could also herald a more serious underlying problem so knowing more about your condition is important.
CORONARY HEART DISEASE
Coronary Heart Disease refers to narrowing in the coronary arteries, leading to inadequate blood supply to the heart muscle. This may produce no symptoms for many years, but can lead to serious conditions such as angina and heart attack.
It is the leading cause of death in the Western world. Coronary Heart Disease is largely preventable through diet, exercise, weight control and properly controlling certain conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes.

AIDS AWARENESS
Anyone who has had unprotected sex,whether oral, forced sex, anal sex or vaginal sex could have HIV. It is very important to be aware of all the issues surrounding HIV infection so that you are equipped to either avoid becoming HIV positive or to manage the disease appropriately (whether it is you or someone you know that is infected).
The following information aims to help you become more aware about how HIV is transmitted, why you should be tested for HIV and how you can prevent yourself from becoming infected.

TB (TUBERCULOSIS)
Tuberculosis (TB) is an infection transmitted through the air, from those infected to others. The usual site of infection is the lungs, but from there TB can infect any part of the body. With proper treatment, TB is almost always curable. Not finishing treatment leads to problems like drug resistance and less effective response to treatment. TB is a very common infection world-wide, but particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.

The only way to lose weight and keep it off for good is to forget dieting and find a way of eating that is balanced and which includes all the food groups that nature gave us.
